Background

Dr. Parag Sheth finished his basic training (MBBS & M.S.) at NHL Medical College & V.S. Hospital, Ahmedabad. Afterwords he relocated at Chennai, finished his Diplomate Of National Board of Cardio Thoracic & Vascular surgery (DNB-CVTS) & became full time consultant at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. He worked there for more than 6 years with Dr. M.R. Girinath. There after he went to Sydney, Australia where he worked as a staff cardiac surgeon at the world famous Liverpool Hospital, Sydney. He has worked with stalwarts in cardiac surgery like prof. Bruce French prof. Cliff Hugh, Dr. Hugh Wolfendon, Dr. Paul Bannon, Dr.M.R.Girinath etc.

Dr. Parag Sheth performed the 1st open heart operation of Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad on 28th of may, 2003. This is his 12th year in Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad and 18th year in Apollo group of Hospitals.

Coronary bypass surgery

Coronary artery bypass surgery, is a surgical procedure performed to relieve angina and to reduce the risk of death from coronary artery disease. We specialise in total arteiral bypass using both mammary arteries (lima-rima Y/T grafts) or lima-radial arteries. We also specialise in bypass surgery in major heart attack situatations with bad LVs, multi organ failures, elderly patients including septugenarians and octogenarians with or without carotid endarterectomies, valve repairs, VSD, ASD etc... We also specialise in minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery.

Valve repair & replacement

Heart valve operations are done to repair or replace mitral, aortic, tricuspid and/or pulmonary valves for valve stenosis or leakage. We have a big series of valve repairs while replacements are being done with either bioprosthetic(tissue/animal) valves or mechanical(metallic) valves.

Heart failure surgery -- SVR

The goal of surgery to treat heart failure is to stop further damage and improve how well the heart works. This is usefull in major heart attack situations.

Cardiac arrythmia surgery

An arrhythmia (ah-RITH-me-ah) is a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat. During an arrhythmia, the heart can beat too fast, too slow, or with an irregular rhythm. Most commonly performed atrial fibrillation surgery eliminates need for anticoagulation and increases cardiac output.

Major aortic surgeries for aortic aneurysm & dissection

Aorta is the main artery arrising from the heart. Heart pumps more than 5 ltr. of blood in to aorta every minute. Aneurysmal dilatation or dissection requires major surgical undertakings where whole of the aorta with or without aortic valve may require to be replaced by artificial conduits(either mechanical valve conduit or bio bentall procedure).

Peripheral vascular bypass -- aortofemoral, femoropopliteal etc

Peripheral artery bypass is surgery to reroute the blood supply around a blocked artery in one of your legs. It is done using either saphanous veins or artifical prosthetic conduits.

Carotid endarterectomy

Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is a surgical procedure usually done to prevent stroke, by correcting stenosis (narrowing) in the internal carotid artery. It is done as an isolated procedure or along with coronary bypass surgery.

Varicose vein surgery, A-V fistula

Varicose veins are treated with lifestyle changes and medical procedures including laser, ultrasound, foam sclero therapy. The goals of treatment are to relieve symptoms, prevent complications, and improve appearance.

Thymectomy , mediastinal tumor excision

A thymectomy is an operation to remove the thymus. It usually results in remission of myasthenia gravis with the help of medication.

Lung resection, decortication etc

Lung resection is the surgical removal of all or part of the lung, due to lung cancer or other lung disease. Decortication is the removal of pleura-the cover around lungs.
